Bursting with energy, Pin-up Rebel Ms Y L walked into the studio with her contagious smile. At first, I thought she would be offended by the many `naughty' ideas I would challenge her with - an invitation to the wild side.
She did not flinch and responded quickly, ``why not?!"
I am in love with her level of spontaneity.
She told me that many had perceived her as the plain Jane on the streets whom strangers would never take a second look at her. Or, in her own words, ``I feel second best or not feeling important at all."
We laughed and joked like teenage girls during her hair and makeup session. She pulled out all her outfits from a packing cube, and I was floored by the various selection of lingerie presented to us. ``I love lingerie!" she chuckled. Gerra, our hair and makeup artist, chimes in excitedly, "FWAHHHHHHH, all so nice! How to choose?!" I swear the high volume of our voices on that day set up the energy of our session.
Feeling second best or not important at all. People do not see my good and value when I'm around. I continue to give my best, as I believe I need to take responsibility, and I'm doing it for myself. If people see my value and good one day, that is more than enough for me. Nothing beats a sincere thank you and a genuine smile from the inside out. All these won't lie. What motivated you to go ahead with the photoshoot?
`Every 12 years is a milestone for me, and I'm born in the year of the tiger. During my early years, I was busy looking for a job, getting into a relationship, getting married, starting a family and taking good care of my kids. Now at the age of 48, I decided to show the world that a simple woman like me, besides giving her very best in fulfilling all her duties as a daughter, wife, mother, colleague, peer and friend etc, has a hidden side which is unknown to others. The maturity at the age of 48 is what makes me attractive.
Did you tell others that you will be doing this photoshoot?
Yes, I told my husband and my friends. My husband is supportive and wanted to pay for my photoshoot, but I told him no because I wanted to present this as a gift to myself. In the end, I compromised, and he paid half. My friends are surprised but supportive too. Whenever they see my photos nowadays, they say, ``you are very brave, and you look so sexy and beautiful". Their look is classic.
What was your biggest fear before working with me? Did it come true, and if not, what happened instead?
There is no fear because you are a woman photographer. The session was so fun and comfortable!!! I didn't expect it would turn out this way!!! I thought it was just sexy photoshoots, posing in various lingerie. But that was not the case. I had so much laughter, and you are amazing as you make me feel so comfortable, and I forgot that I'm not photogenic. Honestly, I do not like to take photos because I always think that I'm not pretty, I don't stand out from the crowd, and I do not look nice in photos.
What was your favourite part of the entire photographic experience, and why?
During the makeup session, I was a bit worried because I'm not used to thick makeup, so when I first saw my makeup, I was like.....oh no, this is too thick. But surprisingly, the photos turn out ok. I was delighted with the snack box too....hahahha. Didn't know that healthy food could be so tasty. But the most unforgettable moment was when I saw my photos during the photo reveal, and my tears dropped uncontrollably. The emotion during that moment was indescribable.
How do you define sexy?
Sexy is from the inside out. It is regardless of your physical appearance. It is determined by your maturity and confidence........life experience does play a part too.
